Training
  • Studied at the Art Association of Montréal from 1898 to 1901. Was taught by William Brymner.
  • Briefly attended the Académie Julian in Paris.
  • Took classes in etching.
Artistic production
  • Internationally renowned engraver, illustrator and painter.
  • Artistic career marked by travels between France and Canada.
  • Drew inspiration from the landscapes and inhabitants of Québec’s Charlevoix region. Portrayed traditional subjects in a style that tends towards the modern.
Features
  • Became friends with Canadian painter James Wilson Morrice.
  • Owned some fifteen etchings by the great master Rembrandt.
