Ozias Leduc

Training
  • Worked at the T. Carli studio in Montréal as a statue painter.
  • Was apprenticed to Luigi Capello in 1886.
Artistic production
  • Decorated many Québec churches and chapels. Produced still-lifes and landscapes with a spiritual, symbolic dimension. Also painted a number of portraits.
Alongside his artistic career
  • Left for Europe in 1887. Conducted research for a church decoration program.
  • Taught drawing in convents for several years.
  • Taught Paul-Émile Borduas.
  • Taught drawing at the Collège Saint-Maurice in Saint-Hyacinthe.
Of note
  • Received an honorary doctorate from the Université de Montréal.
Features
  • Designed theatre decors.
  • Wrote poetry.
