GALLERIES 5 AND 6The Nude in Modern Canadian ArtOctober 8, 2009 to January 3, 2010

The show follows the history of the nude through the 1920s, 30s and 40s, as images of the naked body gradually broke with classical and academic tradition to espouse more liberal, humanist, intimate and socially progressive forms.

GALLERY 12 Daudelin Permanent exhibition

Like those devoted to the painters Jean-Paul Riopelle, Jean Paul Lemieux and Alfred Pellan, the Daudelin gallery will demonstrate the artist’s immense contribution to the history of visual arts in Quebec.

Jean-Paul Riopelle (1923-2002) is a major figure in the history of contemporary painting. This exhibition features reference works representative of the different periods, including Tribute to Rosa Luxemburg.

Québec City played an important artistic role during three critical periods: as the capital of a French colony (1608-1763), the capital of a British colony (1763-1867) and the Old Capital of the fledgling Confederation (1867-1900).

Travel back in time to the first fine arts salons! Echoing the birth of modern art and the wish to preserve traditional values, the exhibition illustrates two artistic realities confronting one another between 1860 and 1945.
