Wavelength (pour Claude et Michael)Wavelength (pour Claude et Michael) is one of the most moving examples of this search for historical continuity through painting. This indoor scene, which seems rather ordinary at first, although poorly framed and badly lit, contains a twofold tribute. First to Claude Tousignant, author of figurative work and Québec painter known for his knowledgeable work with colour. Then to multidisciplinary artist Michael Snow, whose well-known film Wavelength produced in 1967 – a slow zoom in on a photograph similarly pinned between two windows – is described as a veritable summary of the history of painting from the Renaissance to the present.
