  • B.A. (Fine Arts) from the Université du Québec à Montréal (1982).
  • Master’s level courses (Fine Arts) in Brussels in 1983-1984.
  • Master’s courses (Esthetics) at the Université de Paris in 1985-1986.
  • M.A. (Plastic Arts) from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 1987.
  • Took computer graphics classes at the Université du Québec à Montréal and Dawson College in 1991.
Artistic production
  • For twenty years, Alain Paiement has been a major figure in contemporary photography. He stands out for his reflection on the spatialization of photography and the construction of vision. His work closely ties together architecture, history and anthropology.
Alongside his artistic career
  • Teaching assistant at the École des arts visuels et médiatiques of the Université du Québec à Montréal.
Of note
  • First Quebecker invited to New York’s Whitney Museum in 1992 for the exhibition Power of the City/City of Power.
  • 2002 winner of the Louis-Comtois award presented by the City of Montréal in conjunction with the Association des galeries d’art contemporain de Montréal.
