Charles Huot

Training
  • Studied at the École normale de Laval in Québec City.
  • Attended the École des beaux-arts de Paris for four years, studying archeology, history, anatomy and religious painting.
Artistic production
  • His corpus comprises mainly religious and historical canvases. He also illustrated a number of books.
  • Completed numerous commissions for decorating churches.
Major commissions
  • First major commission: a series of large-size canvases to decorate Église Saint-Sauveur church in Québec City.
  • Participated in the interior decoration of the Parliament Building in Québec City. Painted two large canvases, decorated a ceiling and the library’s glass surface.
Alongside his artistic career
  • Sold many canvases as soon as he graduated from fine arts and worked as an illustrator for a publishing house.
